I bought a dell lattitude off ebay. coming in today. I've got ATT dsl connected to my desktop and want to use my laptop wirelessly. Laptop has 56k modem and ethernet port (I guess for wired connections) and a 10/100 network card.I dont do any gamiing but want to be able to get as much out a router as I can if ever needed. any help would be appreciated for I am pretty much computer illiterate.

I have ATT U-verse, fiber optic. My cable box is a modem also. I can access all the ports.
Its a 3800HGV-B. When looking at the wireless connections available you can access the wireless. If looking at the side of the cable box tells the name you will see available on the wireless network. Mine is 450. Also on the side of the box is the network key (wep key) ya need for the wireless connection. Or just call ATT and ask. they will step ya through it.

My favorite router and only $50.

I have 3 - 3com Office routers that are excellent. Haven't used since i got the Uverse. Didn't need them. Say opening or changing ports for ftp or remote. Always worked well though.

The wrt54g is the older version of the wrt54gl, and it is Linux based. The router you linked to doesn't even come close to the wrt54gl. If you want to have good wireless signal, you will want a router with directional antennas.

How do I set the antennas so I can get the maximum signal from the router? I have two routers, they are one concrete wall apart. when I move my laptop to a room about 30 feet from the routers it only get one bar(s). There are two concrete walls between the laptop and the routers. one of the router is Linksys WRT54g, the other is nexxt.

You aim the antennaes wherever you want signal. However, going through 2 concrete walls is gonna be tough for wireless.

when you say aim the antennas to where mean the tip of the antenna point to the direction to where I want the signal to be? I thought these routers are none directional 360%. I always set to antennas upright point staight to the top.
Thank you.

They are 360 but you will get better signal if you direct the antennas in the direction you need the signal.
