TY

Its only $100-$150 difference between the two, Ive heard the new ati vc 3870 1gig blows away the 8800gtx ultra in every way and its way cheaper. Ive used geforce once and the vc fried 2 day of playing cod2 so Im scared of purchasing a nvidia vc.

Heres my suggestion, go with the Intel system however do not get the Q6700, get the Q6600 instead (it's not worth the extra $300 for 260MHz more), and with that savings get rid of the 8800GT and get the 3870X2. Also for the price of that motherboard, I would go with something other then Foxconn, preferably either an Asus, Abit, or MSI motherboard.

Is the ram and the case good. Also is it necessary to go with raid-0 or the hard drive setup i have is good enough. Also thanks for the info.

Well that doesn't tell us much, is it DDR2 800? I would think about going with 4GB since you can get 4GB of DDR2 800 for about $75. Also a single hard drive is fine, you don't need RAID 0.

I would get Q6600 instead of Q6700

I would get 8800GTS G92 instead of 8800GT

What you said completely untrue. HD3870 is barely faster than 8800GTS 512MB and GTX

8800GTS 512MB does beat HD3870 X2 in some cases

The first build has a 3870X2, not just a 3870. The 3870X2 outperforms the 8800Ultra in the majority of gaming tests.

Everything i'm seeing, the 3870x2 its outperforming the ultra. You know, i have never seen you say one thing good about ati ..

And those benchmarks are wrong, by far. It shows crossfire 3870's getting LOWER fps than i get at the same resolution in those games . You can't always go by benchmarks, 80% of the time they are wrong, and biased.

you got to be joking, those benchmarks are misleading

in cod4, i get about 60-70fps constantly at the same settings and resolution.

Everything you say, you post a little link with a benchmark. From what i'm seeing the 3870x2 is about 10fps faster than the ultra, "on average". And you say its slightly faster. So i guess if the "on average" 5fps faster GT is over the 3870. We would say "the 8800GT is just barely faster"

oh wait, you said i'm wrong... :P:rolleyes:

*waits to be slammed with more benchmarks*

Here is another benchmarks that prove that ThatGuy16 is wrong

Even 8800GT does outperform HD3870 X2 in some games

sokol claimed that HD3870 X2 blows 8800Ultra. And thats is completely untrue. It is barely faster than Ultra on average

come on dude, are you serious? You linked ONE page out of several games they benchmarked. way to pick and choose, you sly fox you!

I mean if we are going to go by benchmarks, then there is an overwhelming majority of evidence that shows the 3870x2 does outperform. I'd rather not rely on one measly benchmark that says otherwise

It's alright ThatGuy, because this time, the benchmark aren't slammin' you, that's for sure

First: I never said that 8800GT blows away HD3870 so don't put words on my mouth.

At what settings you get 70FPS ?

You have an overclocked HD3870, don't forget that

Also, don't forget the fact that FPS may vary depending on how you benchmark it. If are a lot of shotting and explosions in the level that you play then you would get less FPS

Third: It seems that any benchmark that don't show the results that you want is automatically wrong according to you

I didn't say that HD3870 X2 performs worse than 8800GTS or Ultra

Please read my previous posts

I said that 8800GTS does beat HD3870 X2 in some cases

HD3870 X2 does not blow away 8800Ultra in every way as "sokol" claimed. Please just read sokol post

Non of what I said is wrong

So, ATI fanboys here are claiming that I'm wrong, and soko is right !! LOL

I just like to see a proof that 3870 X2 blows Ultra in ever way !

What about GIGABYTE? But I agree to keep the HD3870X2 ;)

I didn't say that you said it "blows it away", every single post you make saying "the 8800GT is better, get it instead". That was my point ;)

Second:

maxed out at 1680/1050, average 60fps. In those benchmarks, you mean to tell mean two 3870s get the same results... come on.

in my perspective, same goes for you.

The 3870 beats the 8800GT in some cases :)

And every benchmark i see, the x2 beats the ultra by a good 10fps.

So, ATI fanboys here are claiming that I'm wrong, and soko is right !! LOL

I could care less what company is making what

But if the 3870x2 outperforms the ultra in the majority of cases, and can be bought cheaper, then in my book that's basically blowing it away. because why bother even considering the ultra then?

ThatGuy16,

I say 8800GT is better than HD3870 like a normal person.

I don't say that 8800GT blows away HD3870 in every way.

So, you are criticizing the wrong person. Just read sokol post, it is funny that you haven't said anything to him. He is the one who is spreading wrong informations.

8800GTS 512MB performs very close to Ultra, and it is around $150 cheaper than HD3870 X2. So it is more fair to compare HD3870 X2 to 8800GTS 512MB.

HD3870 X2 does perform better in majority of games but GTS 512 is cheaper

Don't forget also that there are many games that have poor dual-GPU supports. In those games that have poor dual-GPU supports, HD3870 X2 might have worse performance even worse than 8800GT. Thats why I don't recommend SLI and Crossfire, or dual-GPU video cards like 7950GX2 and HD3870 X2
