I currently have WoW working on Ubuntu and Kubuntu, but IDK about COD2.

I am not understanding what you are saying, sorry. If you want those special effects, you have to have XGL and beryl, nvidia or ATI.

Not true ;)

You don't need XGL if you have an Nvidia card and using the latest Nvidia drivers (1.0-9629).

To use Beryl, you need to have GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap support. The new Nvidia drivers have this so XGL is no longer needed.

O, I thought you meant that you don't need beryl to have the effects.
Im not sure if that is entirely true though because my friend had to use XGL with his nvidia card. Have you personaly tested it?

Doesn't WindowBlinds slow your computer down, taking up RAM and such forth? I got the trial version and it wouldn't apply any of the skins for me...

Yes, I'm running it daily without XGL installed.

Your friend is probably using the old 8xxx drivers which do not support GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap

Edit: According to todays beryl blog they have now added "Support for non-texture_from_pixmap rendering. This means beryl now works on the NVIDIA 8776 drivers."

I believe the latest version incorporating the above comes out tomorrow.

You probably already read the blog but here you go anyway: http://blog.beryl-project.org/

I do not know why people worry about resources and all that with todays computer systems. I used to worry about it when I ran my old P3 with 128mb's of ram :) that was ages ago though and I've not worried since. I'm using the Royal theme, I no longer worry about changing themes and wallpapers which I once did. I've had the same theme and wallpaper's for a long while now. I would not be bothered with the Royal (media center style) theme but lets face it... the regular XP style looks kind of gross. Classic view? well I'm sick and tired of that as well (used it for many years).

I completely agree. The difference between classic and XP style is extremely low in terms of usage, and as long as you have over 256MB of RAM it shouldn't be a problem.

I use WindowBlinds now for the christmas theme :)

I know what you mean, You get a really good wallpaper that seems to go great and you just keep it there for ages, I've had the theme and wallpaper I have now for a while too :)

It makes quite a bit of difference on low end systems. I've said it before, I'll say it again, If you are bored of your windows theme you spend way too much time looking at it instead of what's contained in those windows :P
