Which video card to install

Hey guys

So the current video card that I have for my desktop is a simple "Generic PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter", which leads me to believe it's just a default video card that comes with the motherboard. And so I have these 2 other cards laying around the house so I figured might as well as use them. Problem is my knowledge of video card is pretty much 0 so I was hoping to get an opinion as to which would be the better one. Yes, they're both not really that great video card but the one I have now is even worse.

Card #1:
Model: ATI 9550 AGP8X 256MB TV-OUT DVI

Card #2:
Model: GeForce FX5500 D256M

I just want to be able to watch shows on my computer with like 720p resolution. Not looking to play games or anything intensive like that. Also for future references, how do I know which is better? Like how can you tell... because I'm clueless...

Thanks in advance!

Read the article, decided to go with the ATI. They're pretty much the same in the end it seems like. It didn't improve the image quality much (not that I expected it to) but the resolution is now back to normal so that's good.

Do you think if I install a software for graphics card, the image will improve? Not like the driver but the software that changes the graphics settings and such. I just want to be able to watch shows on my computer with like 720p resolution. Right now, 360p is the best it can do it seems like.

Never mind, I more or less figured it out. No it won't...
