hi i am upgrading my pc and would like some advice on this please
should i buy 2x 7800gt on a sli or 1x 7900gtx video card i play alot of games
and my 6800gt is struggling with oblivian i know i will have to change my mobo

How is the 6800 struggeling with oblivion? Im playing it fine on a 9600 pro! but if u insist..if you have an SLI motherboard go the X2 cards..

my 6800gt is lagging i changed the fan on it with a Vantec Iceberq 5 Premium VGA Cooling Kit and my card runs idle at 52c i dont know why there is lag oblivian sets the graphics to high and i have to turn them down for the game to run smooth

meanman you are much better of with a single high end card like the 7900GTX or the X1900XT/XTX than buying two older 7800GT's.

Sure but at what res and settings?

My old 68GT at 10x76 with max settings pushed below 10 fps in heavy foliage areas + HDR. With no enemies on the screen! :)

yeah one good card is usually preferable to two not so good ones, plus later on if u ever feel the need, you could always get another one

Go with the 1 7900GTX. In the future you could buy another if the price drops but as of now the SLI cost isn't worth the small performance gain IMO.

I'm pretty sure ATI cards work much better with Oblivion than Nvidia cards do. I had an X300 SE, and it almost never went below 10 fps, and that was with settings at medium to high at 800x600(all draw distances at half except for land, distant everything on, textures on high, bloom off). I think the 9600 pro is better than the x300.

Get an SLI board and the 7900, then in teh future you can upgrade to SLI when a second 7900 is cheaper.
I do agree somewhat, but the "add another one later on" never really works out. Most people just ditch that card and go with a new one.

I would go with the 7900GTX, if you want an SLI mobo, thats up to you.

ATi's cards generally perform better with oblivion yes.

Yes but to me theres a difference between playable and enjoyable. :)

It is.

A lot.
And also, I don't think the 7800GTX could be considered "old and not-so-good". I mean of course the new cards are better but still it's a good card. Currently I have one playing Oblivion at 20-60 FPS on highest settings without grass slider all the way up.

It's not old, but it's also not top of the line. In some/most tests the 7900GT outperforms it, and it only costs $280.
