Which Will Give You More Speed- A Better Processer or More RAM?

I'm not sure what the latest fastest Processer is but hypothetically if you have say a Pentium 3 Processer with 4 Gigs of RAM will that run faster then the most current Processer with say 1 gig of RAM? Basically, what I'm trying to figure out is, are you better off if speed is your sole ppriority, using an older computer with an older processer with alot of RAM or a buying a new computer with the latest processer but not as much RAM (though you can of course upgrade it)? Perhaps the processer limits the maximum amount of RAM anyway. Your thoughts.

It depends on what you are using it the pc for, but 99% of the time, A Core 2Duo with 1 gb of ram would kill a p3 with 4 gb of ram, and besides, 4 gb is overkill at the moment, 2 gb is about standard for gamers, maybe 3. You'd be better off with a C2D with 1 gb of ram.

I definatly think that more CPU power would better then more RAM, because more RAM with a crap proccessor would mean all the RAM isnt being used anyway.
