Ok, so i dont know a whole lot about computers (how many times have you heard that) but i love em to death. i am currently preping for arma 3, they recommend an i5 processor but i feel like a time for a whole new upgrade, currently i have 8800 GT, Intel Xeon @ 2.67GHz, 3 gigs of ddr3, i dont know my processor name and or brand but it runs at 2666MHz @ 130W and 475W power supply. I am willing to put in 400 dollars-ish into the computer to gear it up for the next adventure. I would love any advice on want to get and what not. Thanks guys.

Take the DDR3 RAM you have now and your hdd to save quite a bit of money. You in the US? Arma 3 is a pretty hard game to run, I recommend a $600 budget NOT including the HDD. Is the ram you have now is 1 2 gb stick and 1 1 gb stick? Or what?

Alright, i have 3 sticks of 1 gig. I am in US, so with my now, i guess, 600 dollar budget what do you recommend upgrading?

Okay. The ram is a weird amount, but okay. Get one 4 GB stick for a total of 7 GB of Ram. Buy a Gigabyte UD3H and i3. Get a HD 7850. Get a OCZ Modxstream 550W. Get a case from Corsair, NZXT, Bitfenix, Or Cooler Master. Use your HDD. Buy windows 7 64 Bit.

Hey thanks, youre the man, man. This helps a lot. I will update this post when i finish everything

that will not help that much actually. Either get 8GB (2x4GB) or 4GB (2x2GB) for 10GB or 6GB respectively. This will land you with dual channel, assuming you install them in the right slots for dual channel. It will also double your RAM bandwidth.

Actually, i have one last question for you, is the HD 7850 really necessary? How much better is it than my 8800 GT? How much will it effect arma 3? thanks again!

So dont keep any of my old ram and go all new. which product to you recommend?

the 8800GT will only just run Arma III. You will need something on the order of a GTX260 or bigger to play it well. The 7850 is approximately a GTX480, so it will handle it on max very easily.

No, get a dual channel set and use 2 of your current sticks.

I recommend DDR3 1600/1333/1866 depending on what you have now, from Patriot, Kingston, or geil.

The 880 GT, will absolutely suck at Arma 3. The HD 7850 will play it pretty good. The 8800 just isn't a good card anymore. Get GSkill or Corsair 1600 MHZ.
