Ok, came with preinstallation disk but when i try to use it it says the boot mgr failed or it cant find it or something, so then i tried to install it with the normal install disk, and 1, it reads what should be 2 3tb drives in raid 1 accourding to the motherboard as 2 seperate 746gb drives, but i just hit continue to see if windows would read it differently, but after a min at 0% files loaded it froze, twice.

Can someone please say there's a quick fix, dont want to spend 10 hours installing crap on this :(

1. Check the disk for damage. That may be it.

2. Download a Ubuntu disk and see if you can get that to install. That will show if it is hardware or WHS that is the issue.

3. if WHS is the issue, ie ubuntu sees 3TB and installs fine, then look for a download of WHS from a windows source and try it again. It may just be an issue with the disk.

Its always a good idea to have Ubuntu disks laying around for a rainy day :) I keep them just in case windows fails me for some reason, which used to happen alot with Windows XP and Vista but 7 has been running completely fine since I installed it about 6 months ago.

Its a back up only. that is after 10. 11 and 12 are no good for anything other than backups.

and to be vista has outlasted my 7 installs. It has always been trouble free as windows 7 was corrupted somehow. Right on the disk none the less.

Did you configure RAID on it so it's in RAID1?

Also to detect drives larger than 2TB, you need to run UEFI.

Want me to Dropbox you a new image?

I enabled raid in the bios then after rebooting it prompted me and i set up a RAID 1 configuration with both drives with an actual sorage capacity of 2.7TB's. How do i get it to recognize the 3tbs?

your using what motherboard?

If it is a ASrock, I know you have to do the F11 startup menu and select either DVD or USB with UEFI infront of it.

i'm using the extreme4 z77. will look at that in a sec. i can't get it to load ubuntu either, and i disabled raid to see if that changed it and it still wont load ubuntu.

If it will not load ubuntu either then it is hardware issue. Probably hard drive or motherboard. its not the best you know.

How are you loading Ubuntu? Is it USB or CD?

usb, it failed the command 'identify packet device' then gets stuck on hard resetting the link.

i really hope it isn't a hardware issue, pulling the mobo would be a big pain in the but and i really don't want to have to call the guy and say i got a DOA

command. Try running it UEFI: USB and use the retard way of installing it. I forget what its called. the one with graphics.

windows still wont load without raid enabled and i cant find the option to disable raid in the bios cuz with it enabled it takes longer to boot since it has its own splash screen or whatever they're called.

try resetting the BIOS. the button is on the back near to teh USB, or the jumper is directly above the front panel connectors (pwr button and such).

everything about that motherboard is annoying.

Why are you trying to run RAID? If it is for backup, you may well just install normally and set up a automatic backup. Would be far less complicated.

Yeah it's supposed to be in RAID 1, but it's not in anything right now and it still won't do anything, it's tempting to run to a computer repair shop and see if they'll do it for 50 bucks and stick it with them.

try resetting the BIOS first, and checking the connections on the hard drive. Also, run seatools on the drives as it could simply be a corrupt drive. Have you tried killdisk or DBAN on them? Might be worth a try, just auto nuke them.

If that fails, then try a computer shop.

im gonna leave it frozen on the copying windows files for a while and see if anything happens, if not then ill check into that stuff. God this is pissing me off and watch it turn out to be something stupid and small, will prob try again later after removing the sata controller card, nothings plugged into it but still, might try plugging them into it actually.

try removing it completely. That may be certainly be the issue. You can always reinstall it after you get everything installed.
