I just got civilization 4
ive been waiting for this game forever

sometimes i get lagging issues when im playing and thats not acceptable

heres my system

3.0 prescott
2 512 corsair value 3200s

6800gt

shouldnt that be enough?

I am thinking it may be time for an overclock
i know my ram is the weak spot how do i set a partition or whatever its called so i can OC the video card and the proc but not the ram?

oh also i have 32 processes running in the task manager.
I want to make it so nothing except sound and vidoe drivers load maybe internet if i can but i dont know what any of the crap is when i run msconfig

its defiantly those processes slowing it donw, kill them and tell me if it improves
You dont even know what processes are running! I've got FEAR running with 50processes in the background on a CeleronD2.8 and it plays fine -- granted that's a GPU bound game but it's just its and example :)

And when you say "lag" do you mean lag or do you mean framiness?

okay? i'm just saying that from past experience, I'm hear to learn so don't have to be a jerk

Hehe, i'm not trying to be a jerk: just making a point that, yes, you are correct that background processes DO dampen gameplay but on the otherhand, the converse is not necesarily true :)

no i dont think its the processes. i play bf2 on all high settings on a high resolution with my rig with about 45-50 processes. its definitly not accpetable with ur system. if u have less than 5 gigs left on the hard drive u are running off of that could maybe possibly be the problem.

If that Prescott is a socket 478 it could be overheating, which would kick in thermal throttling (and lower performance). Does it lag right from the get-go, or does it take a little to kick in?

its deffinately not overheating

i have a slient tower and i idle around 34 and get to 40 under heavy heavy load

I have 13.4 gb left o nthe main hard driver and 159 left on the one im not really using

it is a 478 prescott though

I am thinking i am memory choked

I looked at the task manger while iw as playing and i had about 75000 left

civ4 is apparently very memory intensive

its using nearly800000 on its own

maybe 2 more sticks of memory are in order
