Why Do I Keep Getting Infested??????

I have XP Pro SP1 ( simply because I have tried to get SP2 at least 30 or 40 times and it won't give it to me because my computer is sooooo infested)
I am getting help with this at the moment, but I have just been through the process of getting it clean. Took 2 weeks via a forum, and now I am going through it again!
I have AVG, ZoneAlarm, Adaware SE, Spybot, and Ewido.
I had just cleaned my machine (2 weeks of advice), and was getting ready to download SP2 and now I am full of viruses, and computer is working like a pig!
The only major thing that has happened, is, on the advice of a friend, I downloaded Foxie and have been using that as my browser. It has it's own firewall, so I had to uninstall ZoneAlarm. Could this be the problem this time around? I am at the stage where I hate my computer and want my old Windows 98, 450Mhz, 64mb ram back, it might have been slow, but the person I gave it to is still viruses free and no problems and he downloads everything and hasn't got a clue about computers or how to scan anything, or even what AVG or Spybot are. I have to run them when I go over there, and yet NO PROBLEMS for him!!!
Better go, I have to clean up all of the hair that I have just ripped out of my head!!

First off get rid of adaware and spybot. These are rogue programs in themselves. Next download hijackthis and post the log on this forum so people can look at it on here. Then get yourself a better, and it may not be free, antivirus. Hell even download Panda's active scan for free and it will get rid of viruses for you. I suggest highly that you get an actual antivirus though.

Try those two links for help. Good luck!!

I am getting help for this at the moment, I have posted several Hijack This logs and they are working on it. Panda removed 3 viruses yesterday, today I have 11 ( so far) and this is what I mean by why is this happening.
All of the information that I read says that AVG is perfectly fine for the average user, I am not even average as my surfing experiences are so bad I don't use my computer much, and I just bought the rotten thing!

What kind off advice is that, adaware and spybot are both very good programs!

Get rid of that foxie browser or what ever it is you are using that sounds like garbageware. I have never heard of a browser with a firewall and if it does have one its probably junk!

Download firefox or opera and use one of them as your main browser and only use IE when you have to.

Download another firewall zonealarm is pretty good and make sure it is running all the time!

Learn how to use spybot...update definitions offten and use the teatimer to monitor any changes to your registry, it also has an immunize feature use that as well.

Download spyware blaster HERE update its definitions offten and enable protection it will help keep spyware off your computer.

Do all these things first and then post back with a hijackthis log and we will clean up your computer and it should stay clean.

PS: There is nothing wrong with AVG I think you biggest problem was you using that BS Foxie browser and disabling zonealarm!!!

Yeh, I am not too happy that I felt pressured to change browsers however foxie is Fox (firefox) and ie (Internet Explorer) combined, but like you said, I don't like the idea of browser with firewall. I am getting help with my probs at the moment, so posting a HT log isn't a good idea, I should only be following one set of instructions, but I just wanted people's opinions on WHY WHY WHY is this damned BS happening to me???? NONSTOP.
I will get rid of it though (foxie)as soon as my system is clean and I do want ZA back. Adaware and Spybot are both highly recommended by the security tech guys, so I would really like to hear your opinions on why they are not good Pck21, the more I know, the better decision I can make.
Thanks for all the input and I basically agree with what yuou have said Cell4me.
P.S I do have spyware blaster and this is why I can't understand why I keep getting infested,I update all of my security programs and run them daily as I am so paranoid. A lot of friends send me emails and jokes and funny pictures, could they (viruses)be coming through that way, and isn't AVG supposed to get them for me?

You need to make sure the AVG Resident Shield, which provides real-time protection as files are opened and programs are run is on!

You also need to make sure the AVG E-mail Scanner, which protects your e-mail is enabled!

I can almost guarantee the reason you got infected was because of disabling zonealarm and running that BS Foxie browser!

If the people you are talking to cannot get your computer clean post a hijackthis log and I will help you!

Thank you so much. Will let you know about HT. I agree with you wholeheartedly, I don't know that much about computers, but I have a gut feeling! That's enough for me now that I have had that feeling backed up by your opinion.
Cheers

Personaly I would reformat and reinstall windowns have any infomation you neede or wanted saved on a disk or thumb drive and start over. When your done all that set you mian user asa guest accoutn and anything that will auto d/l cant do much or anything to your computer do to you being on a guest account.

Yes I have read the stickies, and I think I am more than covered as I have extra spyware programs.
Could someone please explain a bit further or give a link regarding what DarkJokerX says about using a guest account.
Thanks

I think you have too many anti-protection programs.

Its good to have like 2 or 3, but more than that I personally think is too much.

Now,
keep firefox
keep spybot
keep adaware
get zonealarm again

then, clear things up by running those programs and have it detect if there are still anything on your computer. then run a windows scandisk. this is available by right clicking on your C: drive and going to properties. "check errors" in the panel. then restart and let it check it.

then, you can post a hijack this log and make sure its in its seperate folder.

if you are getting help with that, i hope its good help and not just anyone who dont know what they are telling you to delete.

then, go into your add/remove programs and delete any unfamiliar programs that you see. those are and can be the programs keep getting you infested.

then, run a registry cleaner, which it doesn't seem like you have.. go to www.download.com and search for one. free ones if you are not willing to spend.

post back on updates

Finally!!

I finally have my machine spotless thanks to those that helped with HT.
Immediately downloaded SP2- went off without a hitch.I already have avg, adaware se, spybot, now have spyguard, and spyware blaster.
Have Eusing registry fixer, and ATF cleaner. I have changed my browser to Mozilla. So far so good. We did find emails coming in from a friend with a paper clip attachment, but when opened no attachment was there, and when we contacted her she said she was not sending any attachments.Avg was picking up viruses on those days she sent, and I opened, those emails. She has sent a couple more to test and they are coming in with the paper clip. The last 2 she sent (which I have stopped opening) don't even show the sender and she is not blocking it.It almost seems like it wants to trick me into opening it
I am stumped on this one, but will go check another thread.
Thanks for all of your help, and I have picked up valuable info through this thread.
