Why do I lag on StarCraft II?!? [Very Confusing]

Okay, on multi-player starcraft, I get tremendous lag. When nothing is going on, ill get about 30-40 FPS if i'm lucky. As soon as fighting starts ill drop down to 10 and when more stuff happens i'm stuck at 1.
NOTE: My settings that affect the GPU are all on medium and the settings that affect my CPU are either off or on low. The recommend settings for EVERY CATAGORY is ULTRA!!!

While my FPS is at 1-10, the highest i've seen my CPU usage be is 53% and my gpu load never passes 50%.

My specs are:
4gigs of low latency Patriot 800mhz RAM
Pentium D CPU 3.2ghz
7200rpm HD
BFG GTS 250 OC Edition
1024x1280 resolution

HOWEVER: In single player starcraft, WITH EVERY SINGLE SETTING MAXED OUT, I GET no lower than 30 FPS (30-65)

WTF IS THIS???????????? Note that i have 17mbps connection on a new router via lan cable.

Please help......

My understanding is that SC2 is very CPU intensive and that CPU is quite old and underpowered now. Also, the 250 gfx is not great either.

Try setting the resolution down and see if that helps. In open spaces and with large battles, your cpu will probably be maxing out thus the fps drop.

Also what PSU are you running with? A low powered computer can show these signs too. Have you updated windows, the game, directx?

Did you even read what I posted?

Excuse me? What part of my post is covered in your original post? How are you monitoring your cpu and gpu usage in game? I would suggest your are still losing FPS due to peak CPU load.

How about you answer my questions please?

As you can see here, the game is very cpu intensive http://www.techspot.com/review/305-starcraft2-performance/page13.html

Therefore while it is possible to enjoy StarCraft II on its entirety with a budget-minded graphics card, ideally you will want to spend at least $200 on a Core i5 750 processor and then some.

Your lack of FPS is because of your rubbish cpu mate, sorry to say. However there is a latest patch that has performance tweaks, so as i said, update the game, directx, gpu drivers etc. Post your PSU and what OS you are usinh, but unfortunately it is very likely that your CPU is the cause of your FPS issues.

Ok, mate, you seem to have it sorted then, good luck.

win 7 ultimate 64bit
direct x 11
game fully updated (wont let u on unless it is)
550w PSU

EDIT: And i dont understand how its my cpu. I tested it with a website that wil see if u can run a game and i got over average. And my cpu usage is around 50%! 25 ea

AND I can run Crysis 2 at hardcore settings and average 25-45 FPS :(

Each game will be different, but SC2 is well known to be a cpu smasher and is only optimised to use up to 2 cores. Your CPU - correct me if im wrong - is a single core cpu and will struggle with this game.

Yeah, well even still, as shown in the benchies, much better cpus get slammed. Try OC it if you have the cooling solution, and see if that helps, otherwise thats about it really.

when you get on the game hit alt+tab and right click on the task bar and open task manager, right click on starcraft and got to processes, right click on it and change the priority to high, gives the game access to more of the cpu, also close windows in the background. just try it if you don't think it'll work

The system uses a thread’s priority to decide which process will run an any given time, not to assign CPU time. When choosing between a number of non-waiting threads the one with the highest priority will ALWAYS be chosen. Priority should be used to solve specific problems, not in an attempt to improve performance.

Changing the priority of any process to “High” or “Real Time” is potentially dangerous. Some vital system threads run at a lower priority than this and they could be starved of CPU time. This could cause a system lockup.

Do not attempt to change the priority of any system process as this can cause serious problems.

Do not change the priority of any process unless you are aware of the implications.

i've posted b4 that when i game i up the priority and with an igp it tends to do wayyyy better than stovk, and i've done it soooo... many times and the only time it locked was when i accedentaly hit real time with crysis on my pentium dual et 2210 @2.2ghz, yours is fast enough i can say it will be fine, and that i am not respnsible for any cpu's or computers damaged by doing this :P,but with that cpu he may have an oem and didn't you say i should never have oc'd on my mobo, so just thought i'd remind you of that, and btw i still do pull that +26mhz for my +.3ghz for a nice solid 2.5ghz

Its really not a good idea. The OP gets 20 - 40FPS or there abouts, which is all he can expect with that CPU unfortunately. I would recommend overclocking as the best solution, but make sure you have great cooling.

only need cooling if you can't monitor the temps continuously, nvidia sytem tools is what i use, and if your going past .4ghz i'd say, really more than .3 is a better limit on stock, apparently i gat a lucky cpu that does more than average.

you could get that p/d to 4.3ghz and it wouldnt make a whole helluva lot of difference. they were heat monsters back then and still are today, and overclocking was never an efficient way of speeding them up.

w8, do you have vsync on cuz i've heard it can sometimes almost half fps randomly, there is some newer article on nvidias sight, saw it yesturday, but it has all lag types and fixes for each.
