Why do people use Twitter?

Thanks for this great forum. This is my first post to the forum and I wonder what you people think.

Why people use Twitter? What motivates people to use Twitter? Any ideas? It’s about news or comments?
 
It's because they are so full of themself that they think everyone wants to know what they're doing at all times. I use it to talk to two friends in different states than me, and only allow them to comment me.
 
I don't really get it tbh. I have one but rarely see the need to update it or 'tweet'. I don enjoy following news tweets though.
 
See I think that twitter is great for the person that does not have enough information to create a regular blog. Twitter is considered a micro blogging site with a limit of like 250 letters. Some people just do not have enough to create a full bog so they use twitter

Yah that sounds good, as long as you're not letting people other than irl friends see it.
 
I was on twitter before it was the new trend.

Ha, I just wanted to say that to make me feel special. Truthfully, I don't understand ANYTHING with blogs. I use them, but it's more to keep my record of my own life. I don't care if people see it or not
 
I've had an account for a while, but started using it more often when I got a Twitter app on my G1, and usually only update on the go. I find it useful, I like telling my friends what I'm doing, as well as seeing what others are doing.

Well I use twitter to be able to connect with people in my line of work. Twitter is a great tool to be able to do this.:good:
 
To answer your question, I really have no idea why people use it. It is, in my opinion, not user friendly and boring. I mean not even easy to read.

I still wonder why Twitter is so popular - mystery for me.
 
I'm not that fond of it, although it's great to follow celebs, i'm following Lance, and his regular updates from the TDF are great!
 
I use it to promote my blog - but really, I used it a few times and just couldn't be bothered anymore. So many people will post something they don't really care about to appear in the trending topics and others will do the same with links to the free ipod nanos you can win. Just not worth it unless you have other friends already using it.
 
Most people do not realize this, but Twitter is a fantastic marketing and information tool. Many news sites (CNN, MSNBC, etc.) have Twitter feeds that can be followed to get quick bits of news, as well as following companies like Antec or Razer for knowing what new products are coming up and such. You can also follow celebs to know the latest gossip or whatever celebs do. Along with all this and the usual socializing aspect of it and you have yourself a one-stop shop for all kinds of information.

Twitter isn't just telling people what you had for breakfast....
 
i started using it before it went mainstream, i used it to text my friends all at once when we were going to meet and planning up coming events, plus texting in class It was kind of like a "texting proxy" for us :] but now everyone uses twitter so doesn't really work anymore
 
Why do people like crappy music and crappy movies? Why do people not like beer? Why do people like beer? Why are women crazy?

These are questions that no one has any answers to. People like stuff, and people dislike stuff, and everyone has an opinion. However, I think twitter may have some valuable uses...
