why do they always make motherboard with weird pci-e layouts

is it because they dont want us to be happy and they make more money this way?

Wouldnt it not be easy to space it out so i can do sli and not block and other ports?

I want a board to look like this,

Whats the reason anyone know?

i think because the pci-e and pci-e x16 are different speeds to the pci slot they need to be together, otherwise tracks to the sb would have to be crossed to get the links to the right place in the chip, which can't happen :P

Many PCI-E graphics cards that can support SLI/CF are dual-slot so trying to put all 4 directly next to each other would require the retrofitting of rather costly waterblocks!

They can lay them out anyway they want to. Its up to the design team, Some spread the PCIe X16 slots out, claiming better cooling bewtween cards if you run SLI or CF. You only have so many slots, so spreading them out does block the slots inbetween if you do SLI or C/F.

Putting all of the PCIe X16 slots in a row does help, giving you access to the other slots but does make the cards run hotter in SLI or C/F.

So its a trade off on whatever you need.
