When i insert a normal R2 DVD the computer or the program complety crashes!
In some occasions this chucks me onto a blue screen!

Help me, i have tryed almost everything! even put an older dvd drive in and still the problem persists!

What can i do, without formating?

we need the error code from the blue screen

what do other programs do when they are run ?
have you tried in safe, ,,,putting in the dvd ?

in windows explorer , go to tools , folder opts , file type ,,,,scroll down to the VOB file type ...see what is associated with opeing the vob files on your dvd, should be a dvd player.

I use Power DVD. When i play a DVD the program ends up "not responding". When the blue screen comes up again i shall make note. I havn't tryed safe mode yet. will do.

Any other suggestions?

Right, I have here what the bsod says:

***STOP: 0x0000001A (0x00041785, 0xc0c00000, 0x40c162c0, 0x00000000)

Thats a bit confusing for me....Please help :(

Even in safe mode it will not play dvds, the program crashes!

Make sure all your drivers are up to date. That might be a factor in the problem.

I have updated all the drivers for my motherboard and also the firmware for the dvd rewriter. This DVD rewriter worked fine in my old pc. I put in an older DVD ROM drive BUT even that dont work when i try to play dvds..... I am thinking, could my motherboard be broken or something??

Is the drive cables frimly secured? Check that, make sure the drive is in the secondary IDE channel.

Do u mean that the second plug on the cable is plugged into the drive or the whole cable plugged into the secondry IDE port?

Whole cable into the secondary IDE port. Also, is there any other drives on the cable? try a different cable too.

I have just put it into the secondry ide port but the problem still persists :(
I have also tryed a different cable....no luck :(

I really dont want to format yet, what else? the jumpers and bios is set correctly.

Nothing else is on the cable, just the DVD rewriter.

What Mobo do you have? Also, what is the jumpers on the drive set at? Power cable in the drive OK? Maybe try a different molex?

Awwww, i was hoping you had an Asus P5ND2-SLI deluxe, then we would of had identical systems.

BTW, did you just put you mobo in your sig? Im sure it wasnt there when i asked about your mobo lol :D

na its been there always :D
OMG this is sooo annoying grr
i tryed a new molex no luck :(

I am considering getting a new mobo now... this one: Asus P5N32-SLi Deluxe

Another thing that this pc does is like freeze at the bios where it says MSI etc etc

Anything possibly else?

Well if you were getting a new mobo, then you would have to format your HDD, so that could be a thing to try.

Inspect all the pins on the drive & mobo, make sure they arnt bent. Is it only with DVDs?

Yeah ONLY DVD movies, it plays DVD data discs BUT not movies.......

The pins look fine, I bought this mobo like 2 months ago so i dunno wot is wrong.

that Asus P5N32-SLi Deluxe can have both pci express lanes run at 16x in sli :p

If theres nothing i can do then i will just format with the new mobo, this mobo is a bit unstable i think due to it freezing at the bios etc.
