Ok, so I was having problems with my old video card.... two problems

One it was overheating..

Two, whenever I would run Age of Empires 3 on 1280x1024, the top part of the screen would show up on the bottom.... it was wierd....

So now ive inserted a gig of new corsair ram, and a new 7600 GS AGP...

So now the thing isnt overheating on high settings, HOWEVER on 1280x1024, the screen still goofs...

Here is a screenshot:

If the game is not ran on 1280x1024, the graphics are not as good, very noticeably, and the screen is usually scrunched one way or another....

Any help is definitely appreciated

what screen is it.... i see it's a HP from the logo at the top but what model number is it, can it actully fully support 1280x1024 or are you trying to force i over what it should be set at (its native resolution)...

Also, is it a CRT or a TFT, or is it a TV?

It's an older LCD....

HP Pavillion f1703

I should mention however that 1280x1024 works fine outside of the game, just not inside the game

ALSO If I play the game in windowed mode, the view is normal HOWEVER the graphics "click" like every 2-3 seconds, and its very noticeable

Even if you try to force it, if your monitor doesn't support that resolution, you will not get a display at all. LOL, that is really weird, I have never seen that problem before.

well i figured it out........ wierdest crap and i still dont understand why, lol, but......

All I did was change the refresh rate from 75 to 72 and..... viola??

Why is this?

Wierd, but thx for the help

You're running VGA, not DVI, correct? It looks like your monitor settings are simply off. There should be an option(within the monitor) to adjust the screen size, location, and such. Also an auto-adjust option is included with most monitors.

The reason it worked with a different hertz setting is basically the same reason it'd work at another resolution. Different display settings, different monitor settings... But hey, if changing Hz is enough, more power to ya ;P
