Why doesn't my computer recognize my smart phone?

I have a mot xt 1254r.... android motorola direct turbo....

My computer won't recognize it when it's plugged in to the USB.

I have Windows XP MCE 2002.

It says "Found New Hardware" ADB Interface and opens the Add New Hardward wizard but doesn't show up any folder on My Computer.
 
Try plugging it in to a windows 7 machine and see if it's recognized. If not then it's either the cable or phone issue. Do you have the setting for media transfer instead of charge for the usb?

I don't have a Windows 7 machine. The cable works fine for charging, so it should work for this right?

How do I change the setting to media transfer?

You have no friends or family that has a windows 7 machine? Just trying to determine if its a phone or pc issue. Look in the settings in the phone for usb setting. Usually you have charging or storage.

Not nearby. I could go to the library.

I downloaded that driver and it still doesn't work.
 
It's a driver problem, Windows XP doesn't have the necessary driver. You'll need to install the Droid Turbo drive for Windows XP.

Also check your phone to see if you can select the USB mode, some phones allow you to change between ethernet, mass storage, and charging.

Is the droid turbo drive what he said in the post above? That didn't work. If not, do you know where to get it?

I can't find anything in the phone settings where it mentions the word USB at all.
