Everytime it starts up its slow, we deleted old programs that we dont need anymore. It's irritating just trying to get onto the internet. suggestions on how to cleanup?

Another great program is Malwarebytes. Google it, its probably one of the best out there.

I agree. We use malwarebytes at work for virus cleaning, it usually catches the most stuff.

How old is the dell? You could have a possible failing harddrive..

1. - Download and run ccleaner - www.ccleaner.com - as suggested above
2. - Download, run, update (before running) malwarebytes, reboot after you have remove everything. - www.malwarebytes.org
3. - Disable things uppon start up, by following the instructions, here.

Then, you should notice some differences...

I know some of them have been said above, just making it a little clearer.

Good Luck,

The main reason for deleting programs to make your computer faster is if your hard drive is very low on space or those programs run silently in the background without you actually interacting with them. 95% chance that deleting those old programs will not make your computer faster.

+1 Good point. However you can disable the background programs in msconfig and most of the time it will speed up boot times and overall computing.

You are right when it comes to programs that don't run until you open them though.

ya bottom line is having alot of programs on your computer is not going to slow your computer down by itself. What does slow it down is when those programs are either running in the background or you are manually running them. Unopened files/programs on your hard drive do nothing to system performance (maybe a very small decrease in speed due to the hard drive having to search through so many files to find what it needs). Programs you manually open like Firefox or Outlook Express or programs that are set to run when Windows starts are what can slow your computer down.

you can try these:

a spyware remover
antivirus
disable startup programs in the msconfig utility
check the event viewer for any errors
disable services

If you've tried any of the "easy" fixes people have suggested and none of them work then it may be time to upgrade your computer or reinstall the operating system.

You could even try defragmenting your harddrive, under my computer, then right click on the C drive and you should see it.
