Title says everything. On tomshardware, e6750 outperforms the 6600, but the 660 is twenty or thirty bucks more on newegg. Why is this, and which is better?

Also, how does the intel numbering system work? Is higher pretty much always better? Or are there series, such as the six thousand series and the four thousand series?

E6750 is better, as to be expected. Some of the more economical members might be willing to give you the low-down on the price discrepency, I've heard it before, but I forgot. :o

I haven't been able to figure out why Intel uses the system they do when it comes to names for their products. Advanced Micro Devices has a better system that is very clear when it comes to naming their products (a higher number means a newer product). I wish Intel would follow AMD's example here.

your paying for the multiplier. the 6750 is an overclocked e6420, check the fsb's

So e6600 has more overclocking potential, but the 6750 is better out of the box?

And what about the 4000 line, are they worse than all 6000 intel processors?

Intel is doing the same thing, for instance the E6600 is better then the E6420, the E6750 is better then the E6700, etc.

The xx20 stands for 4MB Cache, and the xx50 stands for 1333Mhz Bus.

I think the e6600 is more expensive because they were more expensive to buy from intel and maybe can not afford to let the price go dowen too much

Taylor is partly right, the E6750 is a newer model, and as far as I know Intel doesnt produce the E6600 (at least not as many) anymore, so the batch that they bought from Intel is more expensive then what they can get the E6750 for.
