Why is Kingston Hyperx more expensive?

Hi all,

I am going to upgrade mine RAM-memory Twinmos 2GB(2x1GB) 667 5-5-5-15(and sell these) for a GEIL 2GB(2x1GB) 800MHZ 4-4-4-12. First of all, you guys think it will be a good choice? I know I won't notice the difference much, but it just bothers me that I have a 667 MHZ and that my latency sucks. Anyway, the real question then:
I have been looking around for a decent ram, first I wanted to choose the OCz version, but that is 5-5-5-15. So... not really a good choice. That's why I want to go for the GEIL 4-4-4-12. But then! Next the advertisement of the GEIL I saw the same ratings but with a different brand. It was a Kingston HyperX 2 GB DDR2-800 Kit. The problem is... it is about 25 euros more. How come?

Thanks. Zangetsu.

Probably due to GEIL being crap memory to begin with. Kingston is one iof the top brands up there with OCZ, Corsair, Crucial, and a few others while GEIL belongs in the generic dept. often. The memory here is a 2gb kit of Hyper X DDR2 800 seeing 4-4-4-14 for timings.

The last build here saw 2gb of Kingston ValueRam that ran things good there. The main problem is that vendors rarely offer discounts on the best memory while pushing the cheaper made stuff. Then there's price shopping at more then one place to see who sells one thing for less.

How come are the GEIL memorys crap? I thought they where like the best ones. And is the Corsair that good? And what do you mean by "good". I mean, if the GEIL performs better then the rest, why would you pick up the (e.g.) OCZ? The GEIL has 4-4-4-12 while the OCZ has 5-5-5-15, and they cost the same.

I would not say GEIL is crap memory, its not at the top of my list but alot of people use it just fine. Whats the voltage difference between the OCZ and GEIL?

GEIL runs at 1.8V the OCZ runs at 2.0V. Why do you ask for it? Is it that important?

If you want Corsair go with "Corsair XMS" as that is their high end memory.

"Pqi Turbo" memory is good quality and a good price.

I don't know if the below memory will work with your system but you can look.

pqi TURBO 2 gigabytes (2 x 1 gigabyte) 240-Pin DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - $49

I already have a 667 MHZ :)

EDIT: The OCZ is 5-5-5-12 and not 5-5-5-15

Some of there lower timing memory is really no better than there lower performance stuff, they just crank up the voltage to get better timing

The Kingston memory you were looking at runs at 1.8v and sees 4-4-4-14 for timings there. What some brands do like seen with Corsair's xms series memory is clockup the speed on the performance memory like seeing 675mhz for 667 memory. This is one to watch out for if you ever decide to add more memory in by a different brand then the one you go with.
