Why is my computer not working to its full potential?

Hello everybody, Hewy here.

A few days ago my new computer came, but it does not seem to run games as well as I thought it might. It has good specs, more on that later, and when I was buying it I thought it'd be able to play games with ease. Now I was thinking "Oh well, I'll get a better graphics card", but I had the idea of comparing it my my brother's computer first. This is what I checked:

Graphics card: AMD Radeon R7 200 Series (2GB memory), his is NVIDIA GeForce GTX560 Ti (1GB memory)

Processor: AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor (Overclocked to 4.1 GHz), he has a AMD Phenom II X2 560 Processor (3.5 GHz)

RAM: I have 16GB, he has 8GB.

Even though my components all beat his, his computer still plays games much better than mine can, which leaves me wondering if there is something I can do to fix this.

Which specific graphics card is it? there are plenty in the 200 series and depending on the model they vary pretty widely as far as performance.

The 250 is a pretty low-end graphics card. You'd need at least a 260x to be around the 560ti performance. Ideally a 280 or above would be reasonable for modern games.

I'd also verify what power supply is in that PC. Since it's not listed anywhere on the spec sheet then that's not a very good sign.

if the ebay listing is the exact pc you bought then you have an AMD r7 250 2gb. The gtx 560ti your friend has is a better GPU and although you have a better cpu, more memory etc, his gpu is better hense why he gets better performance. As beers has said for 1080p gaming you would need a much better GPU. The r9 280x you have chosen will be far better than your current 250.

The case is a cit vantage, doesnt seem to give specs with the maximum gpu length. I would think it would fit but might be worth getting a tape between the end of the gpu to the hard drive bays and comparing with the length of the 280x.

You will need a good 600 watt power supply to run the 280x and yes you will need to remove the side panel to get the model number off the power supply. You most likely only have about a 400 watt unit in there since it only has an r7 250 in it. Never skimp on a power supply, its the backbone of your system. If you buy a cheap power supply and it blows it could take most of the other components with it.
 
Right, I've measured it all up and it should all fit well! While I was looking I also saw that the power supply is 500 watts, but if I need a 600 one it's no problem. I assume they are all compatible with each other?
