Why is my computer slow?

I have no idea what's wrong. I have antivirus, firewall, run scans all the time, also use malwarebytes scan all the time, clean cookies, keep computer clean, nothing unusual in the processes... yet it's still slow. My computer should be flying shouldn't it? My internet connection speed is well over 10Mbps and my computer stats are below... yet some programs take forever to load up. One small program I use takes 5 minutes before anything shows up and then when I tell it to sign the driver it just sits in the processes box and never does anything... I'm so sick of this I think windows 7 just sucks or something

BTW it took a full 30 seconds of sitting there after I hit submit this new thread... I didn't pay all this money to be waiting around all day

How often do you defragment your hard drive? Are you overclocking any components of your system? You might want to try reducing the overclock to normal system speeds.

You might also have a bunch of programs running in the background that are slowing your system down. You might want to try downloading Revo Uninstaller. Using this program you can keep programs from automatically starting when you start into Windows.

You can download it here:

Ok I defragment my hard drive about every two months. I just did it a day ago and my computer is still ridiculously slow. All my components are set to default factory values now, nothing overclocked and still same slow computer. I looked in my system processes and stuff and there really isn't much running, and the things that are running barely use any cpu. I use the cpu monitor gadget on my desktop and it hardly ever goes beyon 25% usage. Ram hardly ever goes past 60% usage. Firefox uses the most ram because I have several tabs open. Right now my cpu is hovering around 10% and my ram is at 57%. I have firefox and another program open. I want to reformat but then in a month I will probably just be back to slow again. I want to fix this but I am out of ideas.

If you are using that Okia Power Supply you have listed in your specifications I would say that could be slowing down your performance. A power supply is a very vital part of a system. Cheap power supplies can cause performance issues. That power supply is lower quality.

I would buy another quality power supply from one of the following manufacturers:
Antec
Asus
BFG
Corsair
Gigabyte
PC Power and Cooling
Seasonic
Silverstone
ToPower
XClio
XFX
Zalman

If you are not using two video cards a 600 Watt power supply would be okay. You can get a good quality power supply for around $80 in United States currency.

Okay whatever you recommend for my system I will get it. If it's only 5 or 10 more bucks for more wattage I'd rather pay a bit more and have the extra wattage in case I decide to add more hardware.

Well the Okia 650W only has 24 amps on the 12V rail, around just 288 watts. Not a very good supply. Not saying thats your problem as far as being slow. But I would definitely upgrade it to a better quality one.

Also, it could possibly be something else in your system slowing things down, but that power supply is not good and should be replaced anyway.

Are you ever planning on using two video cards in your present system? In my opinion I would just rather replace my video card with a better quality card rather than use a second video card. But I also have no experience with setting up a system to use two video cards.

Here is a good quality power supply at NewEgg.com :

CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply - $92

Did you also try using the Revo Uninstaller program I suggested earlier?

Here is a troubleshooting idea off the top of my head. You may also want to try disconnecting the Hitachi hard drive for a while from your system to see if that is slowing things up.

I would check the Read/Write speeds on that Caviar Blue, and reduce
your number of programs that start up when your computer boots.

Ccleaner will also keep tabs on your start up programs, along with other
useful cleaning.

It's nothing to do with the hardware or anything because my computer was fast, now it's not. The caviar blue is one of the better hard drives out their. Only a few programs are running on startup and like I said it's barely using any cpu or ram. I do use ccleaner and I use malwarebytes and everything else to clean my computer. Still slow.

I just bought it a month ago because the other one failed. I will run the test and post the results.

I have had bad experiences with Registry defragmenters and Registry cleaners. Before you mess with the Windows registry be sure you back everything up to a separate storage device. You can try programs like that but I wouldn't be surprised if you end up having to do a re-installation of Windows.

Edit: It would not surprise me if all these slow downs you are getting ended up being a hardware problem.
