hey i i have an athlon XP 2500+ (barton) and it was running 59 degrees celcius IDLE! so i went to newegg and ordered me a vantex aeroflow and my temp has dropped to 48idle/53 load, but it still seems warm compared to other peoples CPUs....... help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running all stock? If so voltage should be set to 1.65v

If your room/case is warm then your CPU temp will rise. Try to cool down your room.

48-53C load is average...your temps seem to be right in-line with scientific laws lol for the XP 2500+ stock voltage.

yes all the numbers are stock

my case temp is around 40-42oC... any the room is ussually a constant 75oF

thanks for your reply!

geez man can ill trade you computers! i have 3 case fans and all of them are positioned well and i have the intake/outtake ratio pretty darn good.... i hate my life

lol...believe it or not 3 fans is like the minimum for some people. Alot of people run 8+ fans...but it's not needed most of the time. Just having a cold room can do better than 50 fans in a hot room.

helps alot for some people, i'd try it. jsut note that you will get dust faster, and your at risk of dropping something in your case or w/e. just be careful around the open case though and no worries.

Actually, taking the side off your case is not such a good idea. You want to create a "seal" that'll allow good movement of air inside the case. For example, if you had two front intake and two rear exhaust case fans, you'd want the air to move from front to back and away from the hardware that is generating heat.

59C isnt abnormal for stock cooler although 48 is a bit high .... sounds like
[1] too much thermal pase
[2] bad case ventilation

my case temp is around 40-42oC...
In that case then your CPU temp is quite understandable ... thats a hot case

would it help if I just took the whole side of my case off?
Trial and error.... in this case perhaps

Actually, taking the side off your case is not such a good idea.
Depends on the situation ... if the internal case temp is really high then opening the case will effectively reduce the ambient case temp :)

thanks for all of the replys guys.... really helped alot. i will mess around with the fan configuration and stuff liek that and if non of it works.. ill go buy some artic silver 5 and start over on the thermal grease(even though i just put a think layer on the dye when i put it in before)

well i took the side of my case off and left it idling for a few minutes and the temps have remained about the same.

speed fan reads:

Temp 1: 41oC
Temp 2: 25oC
Temp 3: 47oC

Aha...

Which temp is which? There are, as has been mentioned, several factors that could lead to the temperatures you have. It's still in the norm, but perhpaps I could mention my Athlon XP 1800+ oc'd to 2500+. Now the thing is that my temps (With an Arctic Cooling HSF), are 38 Celsius IDLE and the case temp is 32 Celsius. Take into account the fact that I only have three fans. Two intake and one out-take. I think that most liely either you CPU fan is weaker, your air ventilation not efficient or that you have not applied the paste corectly (as has been also suggested).

JAN :D

well i wouldnt know whcih temp is whcih excpet for the fact that my BIOS CPU temp reading always matches up with temp3... which is 47oC.. it would be nice if the temps were labled though ><
