Why is my internet explorer crashing when I try to upload?

My Internet Explorer crashes when I try to upload a file. For example if I try to upload a picture for my avatar here. I can click on 'browse', locate the picture but when I click 'open', it crashes

What windows are you using? What is the version of the IE you are using? Try doing the same thing using firefox to make sure that the problem is from the IE.

Either that or update to IE7 and might solve your problem. Firefox might solve your problem.

Any File is it? that you crash with? Or jsut certain files?

It's also doing it in the GIF animator program, when I try to insert frames.

I've also just noticed it crashes when I right-click on the desktop and try to creat a new folder. Please help here it's driving me crazy!

look in you event logs (application log), does it give an event when you crash? what's the event say? (control panel/administrative tools/event viewer)

have you checked for viruses / spyware? if so, what have you done? also, was there a specific time when this all started, (for example, after installing a certain program or something)?

Yesterday I deleted a whole load of viruses and spyware which I got because my AntiVirus software wasn't loading up when I started up the PC. It's still locking up when I try to upload files or create a new folder on the desktop. And I don't remember if there was a specific program or whatever which I installed, this problem just appeared out of nowhere.

I've just finished the first one. It came up with quite a lot of Spyware and Adware. I'm just about to run the second one but it slows my pc down so much I can't do anything else on it.
