Why is my new laptop using more mb

Hi.
I have used my phone as a hotspot with my old acer laptop for over a year now but that laptop is dead and I now have a new one but have found that it is using up much more internet than my old one did. What could be the reason for this?
The old one was acer aspire one win xp. The new one is samsung n150 win 7.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying your data usage is higher with the new netbook? Perhaps the Win 7 installed on it by Samsung needed some updates so initially your data usage would be up but once the updates are all completed your data usage will go back to "normal".

Your old netbook may have been set to not download updates and your new one set to automatically install updates.
