Why is my phone not listed under "Network"?

In the file explorer (W10) there is a network symbol at the bottom where my PC and router appears as devices. Both my PC and phone (Samsung S4) are both connected to the same Wifi. My question is why my phone doesn't appear as a device along with my PC and router? Any ideas?

Depends, if your phone doesn't have any discoverable services then it won't be listed.

DLNA, Samba/CIFS, possibly LLDP

You should still be able to see it on the DHCP lease table on the router if you just wanted to see the device on the network.

I can see it on the network map generated by the router. I just thought the devices listet under "network" would be the same ones as listed by the router. My intention was that if I can see it here, then I can perhaps transfer documents and such to it via Wifi. Wouldn't that be the case?

By default you'd have to use a samba (or other protocol of choice like FTP) app whether it be a server on the phone that you can pull from the PC, or a server on the PC where you can upload from the phone. Samba clients are easier to find for Android but there are a few server variants such as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=berserker.android.apps.sambadroid&hl=en

I've used AndSMB over wifi which was okay, but that way you navigate to the PC from the phone instead of the other way around.

Interesting. I'll look into those. I've got ES File Explorer which looks similar, but perhaps doesn't do the same?
