Why is video editing software so damned hard?

All I want to do is take a very long video and cut it up into smaller portions! Is that too much to ask? Why is it a headache to find something on the GPL that can do that without requiring a fluent knowledge of f*cking binary?
 
I use TMPGEnc Mpeg editor. It is very simple and intuitive.
I can say take a typical 2 hr movie from TV and edit out the all commercials in about 5 minutes, and then the program will render the edited movie
in about another 6 or 7 minutes.

Are you using a computer from 24 or is it 32 cores or something.
 
Just using a old XP Computer, 2.2 GHZ, single core, 512 megs Ram. TMPGEnc Mpeg editor doesn't need super computer.

TMPGEnc has other vid editing software for Making DVD's and such. The Mpeg editor just cuts mpgs Vids, but does it fast and easy to use.
