in device manager it says installed memory 4gigs (3gigs usable) ...why is it only letting me use 3gigs if i have 4gigs installed?

i have windows 7 ultimate 64bit

You might need to go into your Bios and look for something called "Memory remapping feature"

hmm

i didnt find anything that says remapping, i found something that states mtrr mapping, and it states about over and under 4 gigs of memory, But its set to the right option..

there's continious and decrease or whatever, and it says to put it on contionious if u have 4gigs or more, and tahts what it is set at

hmm

there's only one option in the entire bios that states anything about memory over 4gigs, and thats the mtrr option, i tried both options and still when i boot up, it says 3gigs usable 4gigs installed

I think you are looking at a motherboard limitation as that is an old motherboard. By chance what bios version is installed?

Well the motherboard only supports up to 4gb of ram. Now whether or not that will all be usuable, I don't know. However there is a bios update for that board. If you have a version earlier than 1103 than maybe thats why, 1103 supposedly fixes a memory issue. But to me its not worth it to try an upgrade the bios. What do you use your computer for?

hmm

gaming pretty much everything....i can play modern warfare 2 fully maxed out with this older ddr400...isnt updating the bios a hassle? id ont have a floppy disc either

As long as everything is running ok, I wouldn't bother upgrading the bios. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Pretty nice board for it's day. :good:

Does your BIOS show all 4Gigs?

If so, boot into Windows and click the Start Menu, and type msconfig, Enter, BOOT Tab, Advanced Options.

See if the "Memory Maximum" box is checked.

If it is, uncheck it, click Apply, Ok, Restart.

hmm

bios states i have 3gigs avail and total of 4gigs installed, windows say the same thing, i check the msconfig and the box is unchecked already.

hmm

im old school with pc's...does this mean i have to go buy a floppy drive and cross fingers? or is there a easy program that will do it in windows for me?
