Why still use Disc? it scratch!

why technology not moving foward in the duration/endurance department? disc wont last long and cannot guarantee last long.... due cuz its scratch! and wont read!

I made a mistake of buying a sony mavica digital camera that uses mini discs..... it scratch! and wont read! also the camera itself has problem reading! i had to lean the camera down for it to read. I should of got the memory stick instead!

why cant movies media technology use a form like memory stick? or small memory card like ps2 memory card? it never scratch! why cant use that kind of form and have lots of capacity like the size of blu ray and hd dvd but in a form of memory stick/memory card????

im tired of backing up my DISCS! sometimes i forgot to backup.... it scratch.... lost forever! even my ps2 disc cant play! due to scratch!

why not abandon disc?????

also why stop using floppy disc form???? why use disc form now???? floppy disc is secure from scratch! why not make a enhance version of the floppy disc form?
 
Floppy discs are more expensive and cannot hold anywhere near the amount of data that discs can, plus they are very susceptible to getting damaged by magnetic interference. You are a lot more likely to lose data on a floppy than a disc. Things like memory cards are more expensive to make, and to get a memory card to hold the amount of data a CD or DVD can, you are usually paying several times the cost. Like kof2000 said you can buy a pack of 100 CDs for $15-$20. In Australia, that's about how much you pay for CDs and then to get a 1GB flash drive usually costs at least $15. I don't even think that you can buy solid state media that holds the amount of say a Blu Ray or HD DVD.

In the future, solid state media may take over as the multimedia superior, but in the mean time you will just have to be more careful with your discs to prevent them from scratching.
 
dude, something sat to be wrong. the last time i scratched a disk so bad i could not read it anymore was... well the only time i remember is when i purposefully did it. they dont scratch that easily. also blu-ray has a new technology called hard cote and it is suppose to be very resistant to scratches.
 
discs are cheap and has decent storage. but hd's and flash media are getting cheap as well and at an alarming rate.

there are special line of discs with protective layer that makes it 20x more scratch resistant. special lines of verbatim, maxells, moser bayer come to mind. if you're a scratcher get some of these. i take good care of my discs and all my discs are scratch free until i loan them out to people.
 
use a black cover disk that's invulnerable from scratch..... then you said buy a stick, stick is not spinning it is not reading like CD or DVD, i mean for that is, it can't store a new file it is storing a file from a file. while CD is storing a file from a new file like recording. you can only store file in the stick when there's a copy of that file like picture but. but CD can store a file while picking it. stick is just storage not a recorder.
 
Soon enough they will come out with USB Sticks and have things on them and then it will be a locked USb that you can't put stuff on and then they are going to bring out software that locks the USB.

Then people will just use USB Sticks for games and then game consoles will go the same way. If this happens it will be better than USB Sticks. It is very good way of using techonlogy!!!!

how soon...... Stick like item can't contain moving files not like CD it is spinning when you create stick like CD that will be hard to know. maybe they can create soon but it is not small as the USB and not fast as the CD.... try using USB in putting GBs of files you'll like downloading....... not like CD you'll just like copying...............
 
well apparantly with the release of usb 3.0 its supposed to increase data transfer too....*checks article*about 5 gb/s (10 X faster then usb 2.0 so itll help)_
but i agree disks are a great storage device:D
 
What did you do that scratched a disc? They're not indestructible. You DO have to take reasonable care with them. I've got music CDs from 1986 that look like new, because I take care of them.
