Why won't it scan?

I've got a Lexmark X2470 printer, scanner, and copier, 3-in-1 machine. I just printed something out so that I can sign it, no problem.

However, I also need to scan it so that I can attach the scanned, signed document to an email.

Normally, this is as easy as pressing the scan button, and then I get a preview of the scan, so it just becomes a matter of saving it, but, this time, it's not scanning! In the box where the blank image is supposed to go, it stays blank. Here's a screenshot:

What's wrong?

EDIT: I looked up the machine in the device manager. All it said was, this device is working properly. The drivers are up-to-date and everything.

When you press the scan button do you hear it actually scanning the page? If not, the scanner is broken and you need to buy a new one. However, try unplugging the printer/scanner and leave it unplugged for a few minutes and then plug it back in and try again. Sometimes this resets everything.

You can also try just uninstalling the Printer and reinstalling it, sometimes the O.S. says that the printer is running properly and device still acts funny. Just make sure that you install the most recent driver when reinstalling... Let us know how it goes...

Should I unplug it from the back of the machine, or unplug from the wall?

Or, does it matter?

Also, should I disconnect the USB cable that connects the machine from the tower?

It doesn't matter where you unplug it from. You also try unplugging the usb cable as well. You may also want to try uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it like the other poster said.

Thats not good. Unplug it and leave it for awhile and see if it will reset itself. Then if it still don't work, uninstall the software and reboot, reinstall the printer and try again. If it still don't work, buy a new printer/scanner.

After making my last post, I tested the copying function (remember, it's a 3-in-1), and guess what? It copied the page without any trouble!

So, I doubt the machine is broken. It can obviously read the page, but how do I get it onto the computer, rather than get a second copy?

At this point, I would uninstall the printer and reinstall it. The scanner still may be somewhat broken.
