Hi,
I recently bought Age of Empires II Gold edition, and when i tried to back it up, as i have done with all my games in case of the originals stuffing up, Nero has trouble copying it, saying there are unrecoverable read errors everywhere... and when i try to simply copy and paste the files in windows, the CD will burn, and will autoplay, but when i click on the 'play' button its like the cd isn't in the drive...
what do i do?!?!

This is usually because the game is copyright protected. It won't copy properley, you have to buy a program that removes the copyright, then you can copy it in Nero Burning ROM. Of course maybe someone else will have a better idea then mine.

I recommend using the latest version of CloneCD. It has worked for me very well.

Many people also praise Alcohol 120%, but I can't say anything about it, since I haven't tried it. Seems to be working though.

I purchased Alcohol 120% and stand behind it all the way. You have to understand that AOE2 is a new game and more than likely contains an updated copyright protection that cannot be manipulated yet. While alcohol or CloneCD may possibly be able to circumvent the protection, the protection itself more than likely blacklists the popular emulating programs such as alcohol. There are ways around the blacklisting but the copyright is not so easy. Google a program called A-ray scanner. Scan your AOE2 disc with that program, it will tell you what copy protection is on the disc. Lemme know.

clonecd work greay but will interfear with alcohol 120% so dont use both, but with ur backup copy, you most likely wont be able to play the game with it, install the game yes but u cant play with it

Hello, besideds the fact that backing up your game is eligal. It wont run unless you crack it, also eligal.

Exactly, I would never suggest copying a game in case someone catches on. Most keygens and crackz as they are called contain hacks that get reported (There sneaky little bas****s aren't they). Of course you can carry on if you wish, just be safe :D

since when has backing up your own games been illegal, ive always known it ot be legal. ill agree with you on the crack thing though, no cd cracks and keygens are illlegal

Haha

Yes. Making one backup of ORGINAL AND LEGALLY OBTAINED SOFTWARE is NOT!!! illegal. However, you may not redistribute it or sell it. The copy protection is in place to prevent people from illegally copying software and so on. However, it also often comes into conflict with the legal act of making ONE backup copy FOR PERSONAL USE.

JAN :D
