Why won't my computer stay asleep?

Try giving it some alcohol or some sleed medications then it should stay asleep for 8 hours or so.

I'm out of ideas. I suggest you just order a cheap NIC online or go to Best Buy and get one. A PCI NIC will usually obey the BIOS settings and a cheap NIC might not even have a Wake-on-LAN function.

You could always just put your comp in hibernate, you get the resuming benefits of Sleep only it takes a bit longer to boot back up.

I thought about that but I don't have hibernate on the list of things I can do...

well my computer must just suck because I tried both the automated option and the manual command prompt option and neither of them added hibernate to the menu

and I even restarted afterwards just to make sure

did you do the
"powercfg /a" command to check you system to see if it was compatible with hibernation?

same problem

i had the same problem of not being able to put vista home premium to sleep, looked for the wake on LAN option, found it and changed it but did not help. I searched the net for awhile and finally found the answer, under your power options, if you have it on high performance(like i did) it will not sleep. just change power profile to anything alse and you should be fine, let me know ...

I'm working on the same problem. Vista 64bit. I don't know if this will help yet as I haven't installed. But first, are you running a IR Receiver (IE for windows media center)?
I have the Hauppauge 1800 TV tuner running. When I try to enter the sleep mode it give me an update driver error message. So I went to Hauppauge's website and downloaded one, but like I said I haven't installed it. If you are running the IR reciever unplug. Worked for me as a temp solution. I will post back after I install the new driver. Good Luck!
