Why won't steam connect to the internet?

When trying to launch Team Fortress 2, it gives me the message:
Steam was unable to sync your files for Team Fortress 2 with the steam cloud.

Then It gives me the option to play the game anyway, and when I'm in the game menu, it can't find any servers. This leads me to believe that Steam is not connected to the internet. And, at the bottom of the steam window, it displays No Connection. I know I have an internet connection because I'm posting this thread as we speak, but Steam cannot connect. What gives???

its the same for me, theres currently a problem with steam i wouldnt worry about it, it should be sorted out soon
