Why won't this work?

I just bought a new system. And I have put it together and it will not display anything on the monitor. The graphics cards have HDMI, Display port, DVI. I have tried HDMI to HDMI, DVI to HDMI, DVI adapted to VGA to VGA. No hope.

Here is what I have put together. As far as I know this is all compatible with each other.

Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5 REV 2.1
AMD Phenom II X4 Processor 3.6ghz
Corsair Vengeance DDR 3 2x4Gb Dual Kit 1866 FSB
Western Digital 640 GB x2 Caviar Black
Diamond Radeon HD 5850 x2
Sony Optiarc BD-5300c
Antec 900w HCG
Cooler Master Storm Scout

I have tried it with everything connected. (HDD, optical, keyboard, both graphics card with the crossfire bridge.) And no hope. Then I tried with crossfire bridge.. No hope. Took out one of the graphics cards. No hope. Tried both graphic cards separately. No hope. Played with RAM in different slots and separately. No hope. Disconnected HDD and optical drive. No hope.

I am at a total loss. None of the fans except the cpu fan are connected to the motherboard. The only thing I am not sure about but I have read through the various forums and it has been stated that it is not a problem. The 12v rail near the CPU on the motherboard. The PSU has a 8 (4+4)-pin
ATX12V/EPS12V connector. It is split between the ATX 12v and EPS 12v. Only one of them fits correctly. Do I need a power supply with the 8-pin ATX12v or is having only the 4 pin ATX12v sufficient?

Does anyone have 2 or more of these components working correctly together? And if so which? Also, has anyone had problems with 2 or more of these not working?

The 8 pin won't fit? You sure? Both 4 pin connectors? There may be a removable cap on one the the connecting ports.
 
There is nothing to take off of the second plug. It will fit into the middle four of the rail though while the other one only fits to the top. Another thing to add is that when I turn on the computer I get one beep. In the manual it says that "1 short : system boots successfully". This is really confusing me. I'd like to get what I paid for and not a $1500 paper weight.

Sure your not trying to plug them on upside down. A 4/4 CPU power connector will fit the 8 pin CPU power connector.

i had the same problem. the power supply that I had had both of the 4 pins coming from the same cable. plugging them in did nothing. i had to get a new power supply to make it work
 
OK, I got everything to boot up correctly. Now I am getting a "No CD/DVD drivers" when I go to install WIN 7 64-bit. And I either cannot find the correct drivers or do not know how to load them correctly.

would it be possible to plug the CD/DVD and HDD into another computer, put the drivers onto the HDD then, and then use them in the build?
 
Are you using IDE or SATA cdrom drives? If IDE, make sure they are jumpered correctly. If its jumpered to cable select then the drive needs to be attached to the end connector. If you have 2 cdrom drives then set both cable select and attach one to each connector.

If you are using SATA cd drives, then its possible that you have them attached to a controller that is set for raid/ahci. Go into the bios and change the sata controller to IDE mode. Or you may need to use a ide cdrom drive to install windows until you get the drivers installed and then put the sata drive back in. Some sata cdrives have an issue with running ahci I believe.
 
JohnB has it pretty much bang on. Maybe check your Boot Order as well.

In terms of drivers for your HDs, are you gonna RAID them? Windows 7 picks up MOST drivers by default, any missing RAID drivers can be loaded onto a USB Thumb Drive.
