I've been asked to help someone put together a little protools/cubase/logic system, solely to use a piece of software like vocaloid or something, so I've been looking at the cheapest options.
I built my brother a computer a few years ago (athlon64, 1.8ghz, gig ram, a good nvidea card, seagate h/d etc...), so I've been thinking about using it, but it's always been unpredictable, and randomly unstable. I noticed this when I was buggering about with it at the bery beginning, and assumed that like most computers it would just settle down. It never has. Programs corrupt, there are random freezes, and recently windows corrupted and will have to be reinstalled/repaired.
I've reintalled windows on it 3 times now, twice from an original xp home disk, and once from a slipsteamed service pack 2 disk (which I've used on other computers that have been fine), so I assume it's a hardware conflict somewhere, something windows can't sort out. All the parts used were deliberately picked from good solid companies, so I dunno where to start.
Is it possible to diagnose this problem, because when it works it's still a very usable system and I'd like to keep it going, maybe eventually hook it up to my tv for internet or something.
Thanks for any insights
