its been a while since ive read or kept up to date about the new vista and 64bit

the new build is in my sig.. kidna curious wich OS i should get for it, all my parts will be vista/64bit rdy sould i stick with old 32bit xp or go to xp 64bit, or should i just buy vista?

choosing your os

For regular usage you should choose windows xp 32 bit edition, because the windows xp 64 bit edition doesn't have a lot of device drivers and most of the software is still written for 32 bit.
The same applies to windows vista 64 and 32 bit, there are no device drivers for windows vista 64 bit and therefore you should choose the 32 bit version to get the most out of your system.

Should you choose vista or windows xp?
You can try the consumer preview version at vista (search for it at the microsoft website) and while it offers some improvments it will come out in 2007 and it will take time for microsoft to fix all the problems that may appear with the new product, if you need a good productivity system now I would recommend you choosing windows xp home or pro (depending on your needs)

I had a 64bit version of Vista on my old Compaq for a little while. Honestly, the performace was MUCH lower than it was with 32bit XP. And, as Justin_Time mentioned, most everything's still written in 32bit. Now, the little bit I used Vista, I didn't have any compatability problems(well, between 32 and 64 bit) but, I suspect there'd be some problem that would arise eventually...

The RCI beta just tried out here was 32bit with ATI video and Creative sound drivers available without problems. The one MS forgot was the drivers for their own hardwares like keyboards and trackball mice! :( I don't plan to rush into Vista for other reasons however. Too bad IE 7 wasn't good with XP as of yet. That offers the feature to block sender's domains as well as sender's individual addresses and antiphising. It would block out the spam masters totally. :D
