Wierd problem that needs a comp guru
Ok, I can't figure out at all what is wrong with my computer and need help from someone who knows what they're doing. Here are all the info I can give:
I formatted my computer two days ago. 1 day after the format at night (after the comp has been on the whole day), the computer would work for 1 min then freeze for about 7 secs and it would just keep doing this. So, I opened it up and cleaned it (found a ton of dust on my cpu heat sink fan thing) and it worked good for 5 hours after that. The next day, I wake up to use it and it worked fine until midnight and did the same thing again so I shut it off. Right now (third day), it's been on for about 10 mins and it gave me one of those freezes again but just one only. BTW, I went in the task manager and looked under the performance tab and found this graph (yesterday while the freezes were going on):
www.geocities.com/iamjico/graph2.bmp
Notice how every 8 blocks (approximately 1 min) the cpu usage shoots up for one block then comes back down. Those are the periods where the computer freezes and I can't do anything. Also, notice the small bump to 20% usage two blocks after each shoot up (I don't know what those are).
Is this even a hardware problem? Could it be a software problem that happened after I formatted my computer and was installing all the new stuff that I needed? My cpu is usually below 40 degrees under full load.
Appreciate any help I can get.
System specs:
2400+ AMD Athlon XP
40 GB WD HD
80 GB WD HD
GE Force 3 64 MB
Syntax SV266A mobo
Volcano 12 cpu fan
