Hi, I just want to ask u guys.
My system unit makes a wierd sound everytime the hard disk reads. Whenever windows starts or an application is on the loading process, I hear a sound from the system unit. (its not a beep) Its not so loud though. Im not sure if it comes with the built in speaker of the motherboard or from the hard disk itself.
I just wanna ask you guys, is this from the motherboard speaker? Does this motherboard speaker wierd sound feature really exist?
or
is it the hard disk? if it is, then does it mean that my hard disk is near to retirement already? I heard rumors that whenever a hard disk makes some wierd sounds it is close to its death already.
Thanks for the help guys.

First of all, describe the sound you're hearing.
Secondly, you can unplug your case speaker from the MoBo pretty easily. (It shouldn't usually make any other noises than a beep, anyway.)
Does your HDD exibit any other signs of a bad HDD? (IE; HDD LED is on very frequently/solid, it takes a long time to boot, 'Disk cannot locate file table', if when you run CHKDSK you get bad sectors, or if it runs particularly hot.

Check these then come back.

Correct; HDD's often make excessive noises when they are close to death. Usually, however, it''s a clicking noise.

You mentioned something that's not a beep; is it a buzzing? -Humming -Clicking? -Other? Can you describe it compared to something everyone will recognize (ie: the sound of someone clucking their tongue sounds like a click).
