WIFI Advice needed

Hi all,

I'm moving out of my parents house and buying my own house finally, but i'm a bit of a mummys boy (haha) and my new house is literally 40 meters away from where i live now. If i buy one of these high gain wireless antennas do you think i will be able to pick up the reception of the bt home hub from my parents house as i'm a bit strapped for cash at the minute. If so any advice on which one to buy? I need a very reasonably priced one.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Doubt it. And it also probably would break radio laws, not to mention the much higher potential of someone hacking it and stealing your internet.

Well if he uses a protection on the internet connection probably it wont be hacked but the problem is i doubt it that you will find a good router that will be able to transmit from your parents house to your house and even if you do, it will probably cost you a lot. It's possible that you might connect to your parents internet but the signal wont be good.

DONT buy stronger antennas.

First, you can make them yourselves but a usb wifi adapter is much more worth it.

Some of them (I think) can increase your signal up a mile.

does the router have any antennae by any chance? if so, you can build yourself a cantenna. and they do work, and cost next to nothing (around $10 USD) they are also highly directinal, no little to no chance of anyone hacking it.

It would also be a good idea to build one to connect to your wireless adapter, if it has an antenna that is. if not you'll just have to get the positioning of the cantenna just right.

Wow... I never knew that will work. I might give it a try to see if that really works good.

40 meters is not very far, I bet you could pick it up with just a few minor tweaks. At your parents house, move the router to the room closest to your house, if you can put it near a window even better. You can always go down to the location with a laptop and see if you can pickup a signal.
