Wifi problems on HP EliteBook 6930p

So my friend just handed this thing off to me, running XP pro '02 version.

Wifi status says "acquiring network address" BUT shows 450 mbps speed and excellent signal strength, sending/receiving packets, the whole thing. But no internet. Diagnosing connection problems just leads right back to "consult your computer manufacturer." Friend confirmed that he was able to use wifi in the past couple years.

A FEW WEIRD ITEMS OF NOTE:

1) When I connected it to my iPhone hotspot, I WAS able to download windows updates (over 100 of em, my friend hadn't used it in a while) but nothing else.

2)iPhone hotspot also allows me to bring up google results but when I try to click on them, no dice.

My Comcast Xfinity wifi (there's my problem, I know) is connected to my MacBook, ps4 and iPhone with no problems.

Help appreciated!

It's very possible that the wireless security being used on the router isn't supported by the wireless card. I've had this in the past with a clients laptop, had to lower the security on the router.
