I live a floor above my wireless router (more or less overtop of it) and Im not getting the signal strenth I want, it's not HORRIBLE, but I get much more than 5.30 Mb/s download 16.57 Mb/s upload on the computer downstairs. Any suggestions on how I could improve this (new antenna, etc.)?

What router do you have? Does it have external antenna's? Are you using a laptop or wireless adapter for your desktop? What adapter is it?

It could be the adapter, as I just replaced a dlink with a netgear because of bad signal strength and wouldn't connect to a secured router.

I said it could be, not saying it was. Can you try it at a different wireless location?

I've used the trusted linksys series wrt54g routers for my clients. With the router right below them, its always been a full signal. You can try moving the router closer to you. Or try a different adapter.

You could try higher gain antennae's if its capable of being swithed out. Could be a few different reasons causing this.
