Wikipedia's new search engine went online recently. It can be found here:
http://alpha.search.wikia.com/
However, after reading many reviews it doesn't seem like it is very good yet. See for yourself. The site doesn't do a very good job with finding accurate results. Searching for my last name returns a bunch of foreign sites, as well as some porn sites... and that's on the very first page. Try your own name and see what comes up.
Clearly, it should not have been released yet, as there are still many bugs. Here's a little excerpt from a review I found on it.
He makes a good point. Wikipedia was the first of it's kind. Wikia is not. IMO they should have worked on it some more and at least removed foreign results from the searches. I surely can't speak Russian, nor can I speak Swedish. Both of which languages showed up as a result when I searched my own last name.
Hopefully they will step it up because this could be a very cool search engine if they get all the kinks worked out.

When I spoke with the PR person, she said that they let Wikipedia out early and look how well it worked. I noted that Wikipedia basically had no competitors and that helped it get a 1st mover advantage. I am sure that any review you read of Wikia Search today, you will see comparisons to Google, Yahoo, Mahalo and Hakia.
