Will 5400 work?

I just bought some DDR2 PC 5400 RAM, but I forgot to check what my motherboard supported. It says on the HP website that it supports PC 3200, PC 5300, and PC 6400. Will the 5400 still work in my pc?:confused:
 
if you use an app called PCwizard it should tell you! get the app an download it! you'll be able to check what mobo you have :)
 
The model number of the HP would help here. But the mention of PC3200 states 184pin DDR memory not 240pin DDR2 memory. Some boards support both types namely both DDR and DDR2 memory but the specifications are what to look over closely.

This model board won't be found in the products section at Asus since they are made more specifically for HP. The memory you bought should still work since it's still 240pin DDR2 667mhz memory.
 
Tiger had a good price on a 1gb set of Corsair xms series 5400s for a budget build with 4-4-4-6 for the timings there. But that's performance memory. You didn't mention whether or not you had performance or value ram there.
 
Will this slow it down even more?

Ok I currently have 1gb in the computer that came with it. It's PC2-4300. But for some reason it's only running at 266 Mhz.So would this slow down the Corsair even more? Is there anyway to bump these up higher than 266? Or should I just get rid of memory that came with the computer?

I don't even have it yet, i'll have it monday, i just ordered it Wednesday. Oh and the closest mall from my house is like 20 miles away.
 
That's a nice little walk! A mall with a place like CompUSA or Circuit City will charge more retail for memory there anyways. Being that HP is using Asus boards the memory should work ok. But a 2gb purchase would go even further for gaming and even any plans to upgrade to Vista later. When going from a matched pair of older Corsair DDR400 memory to 2gb of Kingston Value Ram the performance increase was noticed here.

He doesnt mean he's going to buy it from the mall, I told him to work there for more money :P(Thats why you should read the whole thing ...)
And yea, 1GB of RAM really helps, I think the company I work at has... 64GB ram, and like 15TB HDD? and they are trying to buy another one(I voted not to, but boss said one more server won't hurt a bit, and took of money from our salary)
 
Part time mall jobs unfortunately don't pay much there. But then you could always barter for a payment plan on hardwares that way? :confused: "You mop the floor and dump the trash and we think about it." :rolleyes: right! :P
