Will a Better Video Card Improve My Overall Performance?

I'm not a gamer.

1. Will upgrading my video card result in improved overall performance?
2. If so, what video card should I get? 8600GT or 8800GT?

Here are my specs:

• EVGA 650i Ultra
• E6320 (soon to get upgraded to Q6600)
• 8GB of G.Skill DDR2 800 (4x2GB)
• MSI GeForce 7600 GS with 256MB of DDR2 RAM
• 2 500GB and 1 320GB Seagate Barracudas 7200.10
• Antec NeoHE 500W

I like a fast machine, and I do a lot of multitasking.

Basically, I'm curious if I will see any speed improvements by upgrading the video card, or if it will be basically the same.

I doubt it because everything you're doing does not utilize the whole purpose of a gaming gpu card.

No, you will not notice a difference at all since you already have a half decent video card.

Right, if your not gaming that 7600GS is more than what you need. A better video card won't increase your overall performance
