Will a Q6600 Intel Core 2 Quad, 2.4 Ghz, 1066 MHz, work with my Napa-GL8E?

the specs page for my motherboard is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01357119&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

and the Q6600 is http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29765

I don't know why it wouldn't work but its not listed in processor for my motherboard but then again it only says like 4 of them, I'm sure there are others that work. I don't want to spend lots of money on a processor if it won't work so please help me somebody.

Thanks,
eric

NO. it will not work unfortunately. motherboard does not list any support for Core 2 Quad series CPU's.

That's what I was wondering. I know it's not listed but i see a Quad Q9400 processor that has the same specs as something like a Duo E8400 which my motherboard does support. And I'm just curious why it wouldn't work. Is there some sort of reason or requirement the motherboard needs to use 4 processors??? Because like i said the Q9400 and E8400 have very similar specs with the exception that the Q9400 obviously has 2 more processors.

The only reason it wouldn't work, in your case, is if the OEM disabled support for that CPU on your motherboard in the bios. That or it can't handle higher than 65W cpu's. I'm not sure how much support you would get if you call HP and asked directly but aside from buying and installing the cpu i don't know how to find out if it will work in your motherboard.

This is why people who know better don't recommend pre-built computers from most OEM's. Upgrading woes

It might work,But you may have to update the BIOS for it too....best bet is to contact HP and ask them directly.

I guess I have to make a call to India then
I hope I get someone who knows what they're talking about because usually they just read what the screen tells them and they don't even know as much as I do.
but yes my next computer will be a custom built one. this sucks.
I might just buy the processor and if it doesn't work, on to ebay it goes.

By the way. I've looked into updating my BIOS, how do I do it? I found my version number but I'm lost on finding the BIOS update on foxconn's website.
