Will AMD make a comeback?

The Denebs are coming out soon and I from what everyone is saying they seem to be sending AMD in the right direction.

not for a while. their phenom II's just caught up with core 2 quads, but they have nothing to compete against core i7.

Just what he said. AMD is just catching up to the C2Q (or surpassing it a bit), but isn't yet close to the i7s. They were about 1 1/2-2 years behind Intel, but now with the new Denebs, I'd say that gap is closed to about 1 year, which is still huge.

Dunno most benchmarks I have seen is AM2+ Denebs.

I would like to see the AM3 socket types compete with the I7 since then the specs will be closer...DDR3 and New Chipsets.

Eventually amd will surpass intel like the athlon/P4 days i think, because intel isnt coming out with new tech as fast as amd is, and amd will be backwards compatible unlike core i7, which means in the short term more people will probably be buying the phenom II's over the i7'. giving amd more resources(cash) to use towards r&d... But thats just what i think

People need to wait till Feb. or March when the AM3 Phenom comes out. All of the benchmarks are of the Phenom II AM2+ 920/940 vs. the i7. The AM2+ Phenom II are 125W where I think the i7 are 130W. No telling how much better the AM3 will be clock for clock and in wattage. Nobody knows other than having a DDR3 memory controller how many more core tweaks have been done.

Really I don't see how its possible for AMD to catch up. They are severely in debt, they have management issues, and they are much smaller. How will they be able to even equal Intel's research capabilities, let alone pass it?

Heck yes

Heck yes AMD can make a comeback!

Their newest dual cores are pretty awesome!
Though, their triple and quad core processors could use some real work.

I recently purchased a 2.7 GHz dual core processor and I tell you what, its pretty amazing.
Never been happier with a processor.

But, I must say that Intel is still much better as far as triple and quad core go.

Which processor and how well does it over clock?

why all the doubters here acourse AMD will make comeback there the first ones to break the ghz barrier so what do you think

Its the same as the X3 and X4, no difference. Just has 2 cores disabled

Athlon X2 7750

I really hope AMD climbs out of the hole they are in...it's true, they are behind Intel in many areas. I think the launch of their new series will be big. They will be decent processors for good prices...that's what consumers want right? I have read some very promising reviews and reports on the new processors. The new Phenom II 940 will be a 3GHz Quad Core for sub $300 price...that alone will make it popular. Here is a thread I started a while back on an article I saw.

"Under a deal announced in October, AMD will split into two separate entities: a CPU, GPU design company keeping the AMD name and a fabrication company temporarily called The Foundry Company. Enabling this move? Cold Hard Cash, and lots of it, from two companies owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, one of the United Arab Emirates. The first, Mubadala Development Company is paying more than 300 million dollars to obtain 19.3% share of AMD. The second, Advanced Technology Investment Company is paying 2.1 billion dollars for 55% of the foundry. The money will go towards reducing AMD's debt, part of which is transferring to the Foundry. In addition, ATIC will contribute 3.6 to 6 billion more dollars for renovations and new construction on AMD's fabs in Dresden and New York."
