I have a Asus M3A motherboard, I ordered a AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor -. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow, I am wanting to make sure this is compatible before I even attempt to plug it in. If someone can respond to this quickly it would be of great help and appreciation to me.

Thanks

Chris

According to the asus compatibility list, it doesnt support that cpu:( (The chipset does, its just that asus doesnt have a bios out that supports the phenom II)

So, basicly I just waisted my money on that processor? If it would have been the asus m3n72-d it would work, so i am assuming they do have a bios that supports it. What will happen if i put it in there and try to use it? Will it not work at all, or can i just not access bios options?

Wont work at all... Might have to invest in a cheap motherboard to support it:

Problem is, the motherboard would support it if asus had a bios update out for it, the problem is...they dont.

:( well this just ruined my week here. Is there a store that sells motherboards? I dont want to have to order one and wait all over again, maybe i'll have to though. I had my hopes up for nothing. I should have done a little more research before i bought it.

Well, your gonna be overpaying by alot and have a very limited selection anywhere local... Sorry to hear about making that mistake though, but as it goes, you learn from experience:) Plus its not really your fault... the 770 is a relatively new chip and supports the Phenom II, why asus doesnt have a bios update out that allows it to support it is beyond me. I guess thats why gigabyte has such good ratings, ive seen 2+ year old motherboards from them have bios updates even just 2 months ago, plus ones to support the phenom II's...

I will have to flash my bios also, but I have a Asus M3A78 board. Just checked to see if it would hold the same cpu that you bought. And it does.

I have heard from 3 computer repair shops that it will work. I see the compatibility list, I have also spoken to a person who has this processor on this same mobo. Says it shows up as processor not recognized but works just fine. We shall see when it shows up. If not I'll go get a new mobo.
