I'm looking to get a new motherboard since the one I have currently is questionable and I'm stuck using DDR2 RAM. I have an AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core processor and it says the processor is a socket AM2+ It's also a 64-bit processor.
No, you would need either the same socket Board, or upgrade the CPU. If you need suggestions on what to go with, post your budget and I'm sure folks will chime in.
AM3 CPUs work in AM2+ sockets as they have an IMC that supports both DDR2 and DDR3. AM2+ CPUs do not support DDR3, therefore you wouldn't be sticking it in an AM3/+ board.
