will any 478 work

well, the bios of the motherboard must provide support for the CPU. and It's possible (but not likely) that early s462 motherboard won't support 2,4ghz

when you find a motherboard, post the model here and I'll try to help you.

What referance do you make so that you know it would suit?

The board in one of the links says - BIOSTAR P4M80-M4 478 VIA P4M800 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

The cpu says its a - 478 p4 2.4ghz/512/533/1.5v

OK, so the 478 pins is the same, "that's logical". The P4 is the only other thing i can see to go on .

The chipset used on the board must provide support for the CPU, for example the fastest CPU that the North Bridge VIA P4M800 supports is a Pentium D. In this case, it's installed on a socket 478 motherboard, so the fastest cpu supported is a Pentium 4 Prescott...

sometimes with a bios upgrade you can install a better/newer CPU

you can also check the list of supported CPUS. check the manual, or website.

by the way, I'd buy the other motherboard.

--> BIOSTAR P4M900M4 478 VIA P4M900 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

unless you already have DDR memory and a good AGP card.

Thanks for the help so far. This is my daughters computer and the MB she has now is a Aopen ax4b-533. I can not find anything on that MB. I tried another cpu and still willl not fire up. So i am 99.9% sure the board is dead. I have tried taking out memory all the normal test. I just want to get her a cheap board but want to be sure it will work

It will work on that board, but I would try to find a better one.

This one only suports agp 4x and pc2100 DDR. On the other hand, it has a lot of expansion ports and onboard audio and video...
