Will Different Company Modem/Router clash?

I have to change my modem/router because it's delivering 1 MB instead of the 4 I'm supposed to be getting. Now a couple of my friends have been recommending the TG585 v7 because they say it has been working perfectly for them for a while now. I tested one of their modems over here and it seemed to work just fine (I got the full 4).

Will replacing my Linksys modem/router with the Thomson be a bad idea if the rest of the routers and access points in my house are all Linksys?

Reason I ask is my brother, who has a degree in IT, says that I should buy a lynksis because there is a risk of a clash of some sort. Thing is I'm not convinced he knows what he's talking about. I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask a few more people.

I haven't checked all the specs and compatibilities of Thomson Router with Linksys hubs (or access points)
But I agree that if you have the choice purchase the same manufacture just in case of any conflict ;)

Hey thanks for the quick reply.

Do you have any recommendations?

No sorry, I don't like hardware sales support (or really even software sales in general)
I am a tech, and Sales and Tech specialists are not the same, ever (especially on tech forums)
I do hope that someone with more experience on what best to purchase replies to you. Personally I'd probably go to Linksys support and ask them directly on what is compatible with your access points ;)

It probably goes along with the idea of having a lnksys router and a belkin or dlink wireless adapter. As long as they are capable of the same signal G to G, N to N, then everything should play nice together.

To original poster, have you tried resetting modem/router combo to see if resetting will increase your speed? Usually resetting helps.

I'm using a buffalo and linksys router together right now. Unless you're trying to use brand-specific features, there shouldn't be any problems. Basic network functionality is very forgiving is works across essentially any platform/brand/etc.

Tried everything. I've visited the Linksys forum and found people complaining about the same problem with this thing. Haven't managed to find a fix yet so I think I'll probably use my other brother's back up, and if there aren't any problems I'll stick with it.

Thanks for the help guys.
