Will I fry my motherboard?

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 Quad core computer, standard stock, with the standard 350 W power supply. Model Number: PS-6351-2
I recently purchased a new graphics card and now need to buy a new power source as well. The one I'm planning on getting is below. According to a tech rep from Dell my motherboard will fry if I use any PSU greater than 350 W. Are they full of crap or will this 550 W PSU that I'm considering actually fry it?

Half of the technicians at Dell don't know what the hell they are talking about. So they are Bulls***ing you on the whole PSU frying motherboard ordeal. I asked them what the form factor of the Power Supply in my 2400 is and they told me it was BTX, I did further searches and found it was ATX. Dells sucks, thats all.

EDIT: for that power supply, I don't know if it will fit in your computer, I looked up the Inspiron 530 and apparently it is s Slim-Case... Is this true? And what Video Card are you looking at?

And please, don't make double posts.

EDIT:EDIT: Did more research, turns out your Computer isn't slim-line :P PSU and Video Card should fit perfectly fine.

Well I can't speak directly for Dell but it sounds like horse crap to me honestly. I have used 500w+ on 6+ year old motherboards from emachines/hp etc with no issues what so ever (why buy 400w when the 500w+ is the same price sometimes lower :P )

The power rating of a PSU is its maximum deliverable pwoer and putting a 1000W PSU in a computer that draws only 200W will not do any harm whatsoever. The Dell guy doesn't have a clue.

Upgrading a power supply will not burn out the motherboard in terms of extra wattage/amps BUT if the pin configuration
is different on the plug socket to motherboard it could damage the motherboard.

This what the Dell technician might be saying.

Some computer manufacturers do have specific PSU's for their motherboards.

If the configuration is different it can be modified for your motherboard.
